Game Marketing: What do the customers want?

When starting out in the creation of a new games business, you have to ask what games should we make? The first place to look is Google Trends (here) which is a great source of real information about the users searches within google.

1. What platforms would people like a games for?

The graph below shows the last year’s search, showing Mobile Games: (Orange/Top), Android Games (Red), Ipad Games (Green) and Apple Games: (Blue/Lowest on graph). It is very clear that more people are searching for mobile games, with Android peaking during the Christmas period to catch up with mobile and then lower. You will get a significantly increase in traffic by using mobile in your marketing and online literature.

2. What game genre should we develop?

If we look at the major game genre’s only one gets a significant amount of search ad that’s racing games, while the other genre are mostly the same. Interestingly the second most searched genre is music games and with only 664 titles in the App Store may prove to be a worth while development opportunity? The peak in the graph with the ‘F’ flag is board games, which may be another genre to look at.
